The mechanical engineering of a classic car is its beating heart. At Fiennes Classics we attend to every aspect of the mechanics of a vehicle, from a complex bottom-up restoration to handling all smaller bespoke jobs and servicing. A project starts with a detailed understanding of the customer’s requirements. Over the years our world-class mechanics and engineers, with many decades of classic car restoration experience, have breathed new life into many classic vehicles.
Meticulous and methodical
Our specialist mechanical engineers are a rare breed, with in-depth knowledge across a wealth of classic cars that they’re able to apply to whatever extent the job requires. Our priority will always be to give as much time, care and attention as required for each piece of work and we’ll always explain what’s needed and the likely timescales. The scope will be determined, and all components will be perfectly prepared ahead of following a proven methodical process using comprehensive build sheets, precision measuring and well-established procedures to complete the task in hand.
The full scope
There are no limits to the engineering tasks we can undertake across the whole vehicle either in part, or as a complete restoration project. The engineering team at Fiennes Classics can strip, clean and overhaul entire engines for a re-build; they can reline, replace and cut new linings for braking systems; strip, inspect and overhaul every part of a gearbox; replace a blown fuse or carry out a full authentic re-wire replicating the original wiring rig for electrical systems; pressure test all components and repair cooling systems; or even strip, crack test and re-rivet the new linings to a of the clutch. Much of this will be done by our Fiennes Classics team but if needed we can now seamlessly draw on the expertise within our sister businesses Fiennes Engineering or Fiennes Performance.
RESPECTING HISTORY AND REMAKING IT
Over four decades of service, we’ve had the honour and great pleasure of working on some of the world’s rarest classic cars including a 1901 Pan Levasson that went on to complete the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run; a Pre-War Bentley 3.5L which had a full engine rebuild and additional repairs before competing in the South Africa and the Flying Scotsman rallies; a Pre-War Rolls-Royce Phantom 2 that had many complex mechanical repairs before the Spice Rally through Asia. These are just a few examples where we’ve helped our customers to get the most out of their classic car ownership and continue to do so today.
