THE FIENNES STORY
Surprisingly, our story starts with nuclear physics at Oxford.
Back in 1976 Will Fiennes founded Fiennes Engineering when he combined his experience as a nuclear physicist and tribologist – the science and engineering of interacting surfaces in relative motion covering friction, lubrication and wear – with his passion for Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars.
From humble beginnings with 20hp Rolls-Royce cylinder heads the scale and expertise within the business grew and became Fiennes Restoration covering all aspects of mechanical engineering and restoration crafts. They also became the world leaders in production of parts for pre-war Rolls-Royce and Bentley from original blue-prints to equivalent or better technical specifications using modern materials. The engineering skills within the company also meant that if archive drawings didn’t exist they might be reverse engineered, restored or reclaimed so as to keep those and other classic marques going. Underpinning this, Will constructed the most authoritative database in existence for Rolls-Royce Bentley chassis numbers and parts references that he has uniquely compiled over time.
Next, 45 years after its foundation, Fiennes Restoration has taken a further step with the core restoration skills that it is famous for having a new home as Fiennes Classics focused on the restoration, maintenance and servicing of marques of all ages and types in addition to those that it was built on. Their former specialist engineering and parts production functions are now part of sister business Fiennes Engineering, combining those skills with another company in the Fiennes Group, and the sourcing and supply of parts that is so important have their own focus as Fiennes Parts.
Whether continuing to support our customers as Fiennes Classics, Fiennes Engineering or Fiennes Parts the same skill, expertise, dedication and quality of work that have been present since the start in 1976 will be sustained and no doubt add to the body of award-winning work that spans our history so far.
