Fiennes Classics:
A Little More About Who We Are…

Article by: Hannah in General - 4 October

As our founder, Will Fiennes, explains it: ‘Working out how to rebuild a car that’s up to 100 years old is something of an automotive detective job. Mechanically, we know what it should be and have a large number of drawings we can work from, but should that fail, we have decades of experience across every necessary craft to draw upon.’

At the heart of everything we do at Fiennes Classics is craftsmanship. Our team collectively has many lifetimes’ worth of skill, knowledge and technical expertise. But more than that, we are proud to be carrying on the crafts practised by the men and women who built the vehicles on which we work long ago.

Whether in mechanical engineering, paint, panelcraft or woodwork, we are fastidious about precision and quality in everything we do. Our job is not easy. The older and rarer the vehicle the harder a restoration can be. But our archive of technical drawings, blueprints, parts lists and other details is world class and second to none. If your vehicle requires a part that we can’t source, we can manufacture it to the original specification or better from original drawings or reverse engineer it. In fact, we’ve been doing this so successfully for so long that we have likely reverse engineered one already and made our own technical drawings. We are one of only a handful of companies worldwide with the facility to do that.

Everything we do is aimed at sustaining the heritage of classic automobiles through renowned craftsmanship and world-class restoration and engineering skill. Provenance, history and heritage matter to us. We don’t want simply to work on your car. We want to understand its life story, and we want to work respectfully with that to safeguard it for many years to come.

We started out working with pre-war Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars, and these vehicles are still at the heart of everything we do, but as our business has grown so has our expertise broadened, and nowadays we work on all classic cars no matter the marque. On any given day our workshops are just as likely to be playing home to classic Jaguars, Bristols, Aston-Martins, or Rileys as they are to Bentleys and Rolls-Royces. The age doesn’t matter either. If you own a vintage vehicle from 1910 or a classic performance car from the 1970s, we have the know-how and the skill to look after it.

We are incredibly proud of everything we do here at Fiennes Classics, and we would like you to see what we have to offer. So whether you want a simple service or a nut and bolt restoration, get in touch and let us show you just how special things are around here.
